Gilbert J. Williams

Services will be Monday for Gilbert J. Williams, who died unexpectedly Oct. 17 at his home in Aptos. He was 65.

Mr. Williams was born and raised in Swamsea, Wales, and also lived in London, Ontario, Canada, Los Gatos and Aptos. He graduated from Swamsea University and did graduate studies in Santa Clara.

He was an engineer, chief executive officer and manufacturer. He loved traveling to France and took pleasure in the food and scenery. He also enjoyed walking along the ocean and in the Forest of Nisene Marks State Park. He was an avid moviegoer and fan of British mysteries. He was also an active member of the Alliance Francaise of Santa Cruz.

Mr. Williams is survived by his wife of 17 years, Claudia Scalvino of Aptos; daughter Amanda of Forest Hill; and three grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Aptos Village Park in Aptos.

Gladys Furtado

Services will be private for Gladys Furtado, who died Oct. 24. She was 72.

Ms. Furtado was raised in Modesto and attended high school in Santa Cruz.

She is survived by her son Steve Mattos of Livermore; daughter Cindy Furtado of Santa Cruz; mother Valentina Balassi of Santa Cruz; brother Jim Balassi of Santa Cruz; and several grandchildren.

Her father, Silvio Balassi, died previously.

Contributions are preferred to Hospice Caring Project of Santa Cruz County, 940 Disc Drive, Scotts Valley, CA 95066.

Arrangements are by Pacific Gardens Chapel.

Buna Vista Minto

Services have been held for Buna Vista "Mary" Minto, who died of heart failure Oct. 16 at Avera St. Luke's in Aberdeen, S.D. She was 97.

Born and raised in Arkansas, Mrs. Minto also lived in Texas and was a Capitola resident for 48 years. She was a member of the Moose Lodge in Santa Cruz and Scotts Valley.

She was living in Ipswich, S.D., at the time of her death.

Mrs. Minto is survived by daughters Bernita Gauer of South Dakota and Dorris Jenkins of Wisconsin; son Thomas Merritt of San Diego; stepdaughter Gloria Pracht of Santa Cruz; 15 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

Her husband of 29 years, James Minto, and stepdaughter Shirley Hogan died previously.
