City considering sidewalk sweeper
Santa Cruz leaders will consider buying a sidewalk sweeping machine at their meeting on Tuesday.
The city does not have a regular program to clean sidewalks, and the Downtown Improvement Task Force recommends starting one. As a result, city leaders will consider spending $75,000 on a sweeper-scrubber that could improve city sidewalks, which right now are dirty most of the time, according to the staff report.
The machine would be tested over a six-month trial period. If the council decides to buy the machine it would be paid for by the city's Redevelopment Agency and parking and refuse funds.
