ShoreLife Community Church is offering a unique way to untangle knotty questions about faith this Good Friday: a labyrinth.

The church has set up a 25-by-35 foot labyrinth with nine different stations where people can contemplate their lives while walking through the maze. The stations include:

• Inward Worship, to contemplate yourself and your relationship with God.

• Noise, where you just sit and quietly listen to the physical surroundings.

• Letting Go, where you try not to be in control all the time.

• Hurt, where you think about what has hurt you in life, past and present.

• Distractions, where you ponder the things that have held you back in life.

• Holy Space, an area where pillows will be set out and you can sit and relax.

• The final three stations are Outward Journey, Self and Others, in which you explore your future, yourself and others who make up yourself.

Daniel Clubb, the lead pastor of the church, said those who want to walk the labyrinth can do so between noon and 6 p.m. today, Good Friday, when Christians remember Jesus Christ dying on the cross before rising and ascending into heaven on Easter.

"The labyrinth is going to be made from a pattern of cloth that's laid out on the floor," Clubb said. "It's going to have tape and arrows directing which way people should go. We used a large wooden cross as one of the props. There's also going to be a place where people can drop little rocks into a bucket of water, a sign of letting go."

Though they've waned, labyrinths have been popular throughout history and often were embraced during the Easter season. There has been a resurgence in the popularity of labyrinths recently, Clubb said.

"The younger folks really like it," said Clubb, 55, who's been the pastor of the church for nearly three years.

His wife, Valerie, introduced the concept to the church a couple of years ago, he said.

But perhaps more telling is what St. Augustine said hundreds of years ago, Clubb noted.

"He said, 'It is solved by walking.'"

The church is at 875 Monterey Ave. if you're interested.
